Description: This session will provide a comprehensive overview of the McKinney-Vento Act and its application within DPS. Participants will learn the criteria used to identify students experiencing homelessness, including unaccompanied youth, and gain a clear understanding of their educational rights under federal law. The session will outline the responsibilities of the district, the local McKinney-Vento Coordinator, and the McKinney-Vento Social Worker, School Social Workers in ensuring those rights are upheld. Attendees will also learn how to recognize signs of homelessness in the classroom, how to submit referrals, and what services and supports are available to students through DPS.
