Description: This session will focus on “quality over quantity” instructional planning using an explicit teaching approach. Teachers will learn a simple, repeatable lesson structure (objective/success criteria, modeling, guided practice, checks for understanding, independent practice, and aligned exit tickets) that can be applied across all content areas in grades 6–12. Participants will leave with a streamlined lesson plan for an upcoming class and practical strategies for prioritizing essential skills while reducing unnecessary workload and student confusion.

Description: This Health and Physical Education professional development is designed to support collaboration among teachers who teach similar courses, including Fit for Life, Health and Physical Education, Weight Training, Combination Sports, and Sports Medicine. During this session, educators will engage in meaningful dialogue around explicit teaching practices and Depth of Knowledge (DOK) learning. Teachers will have the opportunity to share current challenges, problem-solve instructional barriers, and exchange strategies that are working well in their classrooms. The goal of this collaborative PD is to strengthen instructional practices, align expectations across courses, and improve student understanding and engagement through intentional teaching and higher-level thinking tasks.
