Wondering how to reduce your out-of-the-classroom grading hours? How to motivate students who struggle to get started on their work? Learn about a classwork grading system where kids keep an organized binder with numbered pages that you stamp during class (for completion or accuracy, you choose!), with 10-minute binder checks happening in class every other week or so. This system keeps kids organized and motivated (they want their stamps!), reduces grading for you as a teacher, and ensures that you check in with each student multiple times per class. This is a practice that has helped this career feel sustainable to me!
Teachers will learn to implement the UFLI Foundations Intervention Lessons to at-risk students. Teachers will learn to use the teaching manual and supplemental material resources that accompany the lessons in the manual. Teachers will learn how to use the UFLI Foundations resource website to conduct intervention groups.

The presenter will navigate the iReady platform with updated resources and engage teachers to explore, and ask questions specific to their grade levels.Grades 2-5 will have 60-minute sessions.

Student work is the centerpiece of a group discussion. Learning from Student Work is a tool to guide groups of teachers discovering what students understand and how they are thinking.

This is the first part of this session. In this first part teachers will be trained on the observation tool for questioning and how to give our teachers effective feedback. The second part of this session will be two classroom walkthroughs of peers (during a non-PLC planning day) that are scheduled and led by coaches. Teachers will take notes using the questioning catcher during walkthroughs. We will debrief as a group to write effective feedback. A CEU link of 3 hours will be shared upon completion of the second part of this session.
In this session we will look at criteria for high level cognitive engagement and edit/revise our lesson plans based off of a checklist. Teachers will submit a revised lesson plan in order to recieve their credit.

Throughout the session, we will delve into the principles of explicit teaching and create engaging lesson plans that can be used to kickoff Quarter 2. The overarching goal of Depth and Complexity is to move students towards expert knowledge of content. In their research Bette Gould and Sandra Kaplan looked to understand how an expert understands their field differently from a layperson. They identified eleven of these traits and assigned a name and a symbol to each. The idea is that students can move closer to an expert’s level of understanding by thinking through these same lenses. A CEU link for 1.5 hours of Professional Learning will be shared upon completion.
The purpose of this workshop is to enhance the skills of the learner when working with all types of students and will help support and implement the plans of a group session or PBL Club.
In this course you will learn that the power of words is a practice that helps educators and Afterschool professionals learn how the use of words, phrases and tone impact the behavior of children. Using a lecture demonstration format, participants will gain knowledge of how to use tone, key words and phrases to influence positive behavior in children. Participants will leave this workshop equipped with the knowledge and tools they need to engage in positive interactions with the children in their care.
In this course staff will want to increase the well-being of the children in their program. During instruction staff will learn to implement the 7 strengths which are: Belonging, Curiosity, Friendship, Kindness, Confidence, Courage and Hope.

Teachers will be able to look at their data, create goals, and see where their students need support at the most. They will also have a follow up when their students take their benchmarks.
Each grade level will gather their MOY data that they have received thus far review, watch a video on small group instruction and be able to take their own data to plan small groups beginning in January.

In this course you will learn how to conduct team building activities with children that emphasize cooperation and collaboration, not competition. These teamwork skills help to prepare kids to face dilemmas and solve problems together.

The Duke Human Rights Center at the Franklin Humanities Institute invites you to attend a workshop focused on empowering educators to use local North Carolina histories of human rights activism in their classrooms. Each workshop includes a session with local social justice and historical organizations, curriculum demonstrations, and a seminar with an expert on North Carolina history. The purpose of the courses in the First Aid/CPR is to help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies to know to give immediate care to a suddenly injured or ill person until more advanced medical personnel arrive and take over.
