About me
My full name is Theresa Butts; I go by "Teri." The upcoming school year 2023-2024 marks my 3rd year as an English teacher at Northern High School (NHS). I decree and declare that I have found my calling as an English teacher. I am privileged to teach English IV (inclusive of Honors), Latinx Literature, and Creative Writing. I am especially excited to teach these courses because NHS has provided me with the tools that I need to become a successful teacher, which makes me a proud Knight.
As a Native New Yorker, part of my pedagogy focuses on a culturally responsive approach. New York is the bedrock of melting pots and I bring that spirit to NHS, where I strive to cater to each student's distinct culture. At Northern High School, we strive to connect cultures, respect everyone's sexual orientation. As an English teacher I choose the literature that closely dovetails young adult life and experiences.
I teach my students that they are the generation that will make the world a better place, and I prepare them for the wonderful journey that they have ahead of them.
