About me
Markiss Barnes (He/Him) is a Music Educator serving as the music teacher at Southwest Elementary in Durham, North Carolina. He has a passion for integrating cultures, the arts, and diverse subjects into his music lessons. He serves as a teacher liaison to his school’s Rainbow club and leads school based music ensembles.He holds an undergraduate degree in Music Education from Elizabeth City State University, and a certification in Arts Integration and STEAM from the Institute of Arts Integration and STEAM. He is a euphoniumist in the Triangle Pride Band and has spent a majority of his career as a band director. Outside of the classroom he enjoys teaching Aqua Zumba and learning about World Cultures through his love of music.
