World History; Social Studies Teaching World History Thematically
Friday February 14, 2025 2:45pm - 4:15pm EST
Educators in Durham will discuss the purpose of creating and implementing a thematic history curriculum in our classrooms. Teachers will determine what the purpose of the social studies curriculum in DPS is, and will evaluate to what extent a thematic approach to history helps align this purpose with the content we teach. They will explore what curriculum already exists, will consider how they would implement it in their classroom, or change these materials to make them work in their own space. Teachers will identify the ways in which a thematic approach to world history facilitates interdisciplinary learning, enhances student literacy skills, and connects the themes of history to the lived experiences of our students.
