Description: n this first session of our TEACCH professional learning series, staff will build a shared understanding of autism and explore practical, research-based strategies for supporting autistic students across all classroom settings. The session is designed to meet staff where they are—whether newer to TEACCH principles or ready to extend their current practice. We’ll learn how structured teaching creates clarity, reduces anxiety, and supports independence for all learners. Educators will explore ways to design supportive classroom environments, communicate effectively with families, and meet the needs of students with a wide range of learning, sensory, and communication profiles. Through real classroom scenarios and examples, we’ll also address common challenges such as sustaining attention, navigating perfectionism, supporting emotional regulation, responding to escalation, and encouraging engagement in whole-group and small-group work. Participants will leave with concrete strategies, visual tools, and actionable next steps they can immediately apply in their classrooms—strengthening both individual support and consistent schoolwide practices rooted in TEACCH’s structured, student-centered approach.
