Santee Road Preserve: Design; History; and Student Centered Learning LIMITED
Monday March 10, 2025 10:00am - 12:00pm EDT
This future nature preserve hike offers a real-world opportunity to envision student-centered learning experiences and share ideas with the Durham County Santee Road Preserve Design Team as they are in the early stages of designing the future nature preserve. Guided by knowledgeable naturalists, teachers and school staff will learn site history, and explore the Falls Lake ecosystem to discuss the most impactful elements that Durham County can work toward building on site in support of equitable student-centered learning. We will be identifying natural features to highlight as well as discussing possible building and programming plans to make the future Santee Road Preserve a prominent outdoor education destination of eastern Durham County. Joining the tour will be several members of the Durham County Santee Road Preserve Project Design Team, including County Open Space staff, landscape architects, engineers, and staff from supporting entities like the Wildlife Resources Commission and the Mountain to Sea Trail. Please note that this session is entirely outdoors! Please dress appropriately for walking on uneven ground.
