Welcome to the Durham Public Schools Professional Learning Schedule of Professional Learning! Here you will find a comprehensive list of PL sessions occurring throughout our district.
Math teachers will receive curriculum and resource updates for the 2023-2024 school year and meet with their departments to plan. ROOM ASSIGNMENTS- Math 1 230, Math 2 231, Math 3 233, AP 234, This session is required for all 9-12 math teachers.
Students with a growth mindset and positive learner identities: - believe they can learn what they do not already know rather than assuming that they will never be good at something or that they are not smart enough to do something (growth vs. fixed mindset); see failure as an opportunity to learn and try something new (mistakes are expected, inspected, and corrected); see challenges as a way to learn (productive struggle). In this session you will experience and take with you resources and strategies for building growth mindsets and positive learner identities in your classroom.
Participants will dig into Chapter 2 of the Math Pact book by looking at words that expire at each grade level, as well as preview the yearlong professional learning plannied for 2023-2024.
The presentation will utilize and explore the components of Reveal that support data-driven instruction using formative assessments. Teachers will navigate to ready made and/or design formative assessments Participants will need their devices.
Participants will understand how to access Reveal digital resources, basic navigation components, and plan how to get started with the print and digital textbook resources.
The presentation will utilize and explore the components of Reveal that support peer-to-peer discourse and language development of all learners. Teachers will design discourse that forces students to take the role of mathematician using leveled questioning and literacy strategies. Participants will need their devices.
