Welcome to the Durham Public Schools Professional Learning Schedule of Professional Learning! Here you will find a comprehensive list of PL sessions occurring throughout our district.
The question of AI in the schools has flipped and the new question might be what can’t you do with AI in schools right now! Suggestions on how to include current events into the curriculum? Check. Drafting emails to parents and students? Check. Summarizing data from surveys? Check. Creating historic dialogs with 130 different languages/accents? Check. Using Canva’s text-to-image for livening up slide presentations? Check. This quick review will include a resource list of activities and prompt guides to get the most out of ChatGPT (at home!), including information on the new plug-ins that generate accurate citations and reduce the number of “hallucinations.” And insights into how students are currently using ChatGPT (or planning to) in ways teachers will not be able to detect.
Teachers will learn about Kennetha's website and the resources and templates available there. Secondary schools will also be given a 4tour4 of the Canvas shells created by Kennetha that are available for download.
Participants will understand how to access ALEKS, basic navigation components, and plan how to get started with the resource. Participants will explore some additional features of ALEKS for targeted practice such as creating custom assigments and having students self-select through their My Path lessons.
School-based eLearning teams will review procedures, expectations, and strategies to prepare for the upcoming year. This session is part 1 of 2, please attend both sessions. The session is required for eLearning coordinators and team members.
Learn how Duke’s Nanotechnology Center’s NSF-funded outreach program can cater to your classroom’s needs to engage your students in authentic and relevant STEM activities. We will overview the capabilities of our facilities, do a hands-on sample nanotechnology activity, and delve into how our standards-aligned outreach can mesh with your curriculum, and conclude with collecting samples to be imaged in one of Duke's Scanning Electron Microscopes!
