Wondering how to reduce your out-of-the-classroom grading hours? How to motivate students who struggle to get started on their work? Learn about a classwork grading system where kids keep an organized binder with numbered pages that you stamp during class (for completion or accuracy, you choose!), with 10-minute binder checks happening in class every other week or so. This system keeps kids organized and motivated (they want their stamps!), reduces grading for you as a teacher, and ensures that you check in with each student multiple times per class. This is a practice that has helped this career feel sustainable to me!

Review the difference between the 3 levels of questions, practice crafting leveled questions and analyze the impact various levels of questioning has on students and instruction.
Student work is the centerpiece of a group discussion. Learning from Student Work is a tool to guide groups of teachers discovering what students understand and how they are thinking.
This is the first part of this session. In this first part teachers will be trained on the observation tool for questioning and how to give our teachers effective feedback. The second part of this session will be two classroom walkthroughs of peers (during a non-PLC planning day) that are scheduled and led by coaches. Teachers will take notes using the questioning catcher during walkthroughs. We will debrief as a group to write effective feedback. A CEU link of 3 hours will be shared upon completion of the second part of this session.
In this session we will look at criteria for high level cognitive engagement and edit/revise our lesson plans based off of a checklist. Teachers will submit a revised lesson plan in order to recieve their credit.
Join us for an informative and interactive session aimed at nurturing the development of beginning teachers while also increasing student engagement and academic achievement. Throughout the session, we will delve into the principles of explicit teaching and create engaging lesson plans that can be used to kickoff Quarter 2. Join us in fostering a culture of educational excellence!
The overarching goal of Depth and Complexity is to move students towards expert knowledge of content. In their research Bette Gould and Sandra Kaplan looked to understand how an expert understands their field differently from a layperson. They identified eleven of these traits and assigned a name and a symbol to each. The idea is that students can move closer to an expert’s level of understanding by thinking through these same lenses. A CEU link for 1.5 hours of Professional Learning will be shared upon completion.
Coaches will study and experience Instructional Rounds with the HQMI Tool; Coaches will study and reflect on Equitable Teaching, Learning, and Assessing Practices; Coaches will study math digital curriculum resources implementation with focus on corrective instruciton and enrichment.
