6-8 Science - Engaging Science Lessons using the Discovery Education Techbook (Morning) - TR
Teachers will learn about a digital curriculum resource available to 6-8th grade science teachers this year. Engaging, fun and effortlessly easy-to-use, Science Techbook for North Carolina is more than a middle school curriculum – it’s next generation learning! This program was built for the 2023 North Carolina K-12 Science Standards and is brand-new for Back-To-School. **this session will be repeated in the afternoon, teachers only need to sign up for one of the two sessions**

K-5 Science and Engineering Practices and Resource Overview

Participants will get introduced to the newly adopted Science and Engineering Practices and what this means for our K-5 classrooms, in addition to an overview of our DPS science resources including Mystery Science and DPS Investigations. This session is designed to inform K-5 teachers who were not able to attend the Kickoff-K-5 Science Session.

6-12 Science - Strategies to Encourage Students to Write and Talk about Science - TR/SP
Monday September 23, 2024 1:00pm - 2:30pm EDT
Writing and talking about science are crucial skills students need to learn in order to think and act like scientists. Participants will learn about and engage in scaffolding activities that support writing and talking about scientific ideas. Connected to the science and engineering practices of constructing explanations and engaging in argument from evidence, these strategies can be used to develop a culture of science talk that will benefit all students, including multilingual learners. Participants will leave with specific strategies connected to the new standards ready to be implemented in their classrooms.
